Dust collector maintenance: filter and bin

A full bin or a loaded filter feels like a weak collector. Empty the bin and clean or change the filter on a schedule. Sensors can watch. They are not this page.

Most "it got weak" weeks

A bin that is full, or a filter doing its job too well.

Before you chase a new collector, check the simple maintenance items that block airflow.

Empty the bin before it packs the inlet

When the bin piles up into the inlet, the system can look fine from outside while airflow drops fast.

Service the filter the way the filter maker says

Bag, cartridge, and canister filters all have different care. Follow the filter maker's clean or replace interval. This page does not invent a GRIT interval.

Do not make a dust cloud

If you "clean" a filter in the shop, you just moved dust into the air.

Take it outside or use the method the filter maker specifies. Keep it simple and safe.

Sensors can watch, but they do not do the work

If airflow feels weak, do not guess.

Use the plain checklist first, then fix leaks, gates, and maintenance before you shop for a bigger collector.
