Flex hose vs hard duct

Corrugated hose is fine for the last few feet to the tool. A long flex run eats airflow. Use hard duct for the trunk in a one-room shop.

The simple rule

Flex solves a moving tool. It is a bad trunk.

The ridges slow the air and catch chips. Every extra foot of hose is a tax on the collector you already bought.

  • Hard duct for the main run and fixed branches.
  • Short flex to the hood when the tool or port needs it.
  • Shorten flex first before you shop for a bigger blower.

Do not skip the base

Automation does not fix a hose used as a main duct.

Gates and a Hub help when the layout is clear. They do not make air flow through a long, crushed flex run.

If you are still on one hose

If the whole shop is one hose to one tool, decide what shop you actually have first. See shop vac vs a ducted shop.

If suction feels weak

Long hose is only one cause. Use the plain checklist on lost suction before you blame the collector.

Next

Once duct and gates exist, start with two tools.

That is the starter system. You keep the duct, keep compatible metal gates, and automate the sequence.
