When the dust collector loses suction

Weak airflow in a home shop usually means leaks, too many gates open, a full bin, or a loaded filter. One plain checklist. Not a repair manual.

Name the symptom

Chips sit on the table. The hose sighs. The bin was fine last week.

Before you blame the collector, check the usual causes in the shop.

  1. 01

    Too many open branches

Air takes every path you left open. Close what you are not using.

  2. 02

    Leaks

Tape joints, open cleanout doors, and a gate that does not seat pull room air instead of tool dust.

  3. 03

    Full bin or loaded filter

The blower is running, but air is not moving through the tool. Empty the bin and service the filter per the filter maker.

  4. 04

    Long or crushed flex

Corrugated hose and sharp bends cost airflow fast. Shorten the hose and remove crush points.

What automation does and does not do

Automation fixes the memory problem, not the leak.

When gates close automatically, "too many open branches" stops being a daily habit problem. It does not patch a leak or empty a bin.
